Excitations

Excitations

The following types of excitations can be defined for Planar EM simulations in Designer:

Gap source	Represents an internal surface through which a signal enters or exits the geometry.
Pad port	Represents a gap source that can wrap around a model’s corners or be located inside a polygon object.
Probe port	Represents a coaxial-type connector with the center pin of the connector extending from the ground plane to any metal layer.
Plane wave	Represents a propagating wave impinging on the geometry.

When you specify an excitation, Designer uses linear superposition to calculate the solution. The signal on each port and mode is solved for separately. Designer sets the signals on all non-zero modes and generates a solution. This procedure is repeated with each port until a solution is generated for each.
