Working with Imported S-Parameter Data

(Planar EM only)

 

An N-port is an external device with known S-parameters. In Designer it can be used to simulate devices such as amplifiers, diodes, capacitors, inductors, resistors, and previously simulated circuit or array subsections.

You can incorporate the circuit response of an N-port into the simulation of the overall structure by inserting it into your planar circuit. N-ports connect to edge ports defined on the side of transmission lines or metal structures.

In simulating structures containing N-ports, the ports of your Designer model are treated as open, internal ports first. The S-parameters of the model are computed using the full-wave simulator. The overall response of the structure is then obtained by connecting the S-parameters of the N-port to the S-parameters of the model at the appropriate connecting points using the circuit connection method.
