Import External Fields

Simulation: Sources and LoadsSource FieldImport External Field

This dialog box allows to define various external fields for Tracking- and PIC-simulations. It contains a table box were most of the settings can be applied.

Note: After the simulation was started a preview with applied scaling values is created and available in the result tree under 2D/3D Results. Please keep in mind, that these fields are not included in monitored field data from the PIC- solver. Moreover these imported fields are not modified by the particle induced currents.

Use local copies only

This checkbox determines if the local field copy should be used for the particle simulation only, or if the original file data is preferred for the simulation.

checked

Use the local copy of the field data only. If the original monitor file is updated later on, these changes will not be taken into account for the particle simulation.

unchecked

Always try to use the original field monitor data. If it is not available anymore, a warning will appear and the copied data will be taken instead.

Use relative path

When this box is checked, the relative path of an imported file (with respect to the location of the .cst project) is used to access the imported files. For example, if the .cst project absolute path is "C:\projects\gun.cst" and the absolute path of the import file is "C:\imports\field.txt", then the relative path of the import is "..\..\imports\field.txt". This box is useful for simulations with the System Assembly and Modeling (SAM).

Update local copies

When this box is checked, the local copies of the imported fields are updated with the field data from the import location.

Mue

If a magnetic field has been chosen, one can define a relative mue value for the conversion to a magnetic flux density. Note that the magnetic flux density is the relevant physical field for the particle movement. in most cases a relative mue value of 1 is correct.

External Fields frame

This frame contains the control elements for defining the field imports.

Active

Allows to deactivate a particular field without removing the definition completely. An inactive field is not included in the particle simulation.

Field

Shows the filename of the external field to be imported. By pressing the button on the right of the text field, one can edit the field monitor file path.

Type

This row is for information purpose only, it shows the type of the chosen field monitor.

Factor

Here one can define a scaling factor for each field definition.

Frequency

This row is for information purpose only and shows the frequency of the chosen field monitor.

Phase

For fields with a frequency value larger than zero one can set a phase shift here.

Shift (only visible in Problem Type PIC)

For fields with a non-constant time signal, one can define a negative value to define a delay for the time signal.

Signal (only visible in Problem Type PIC

External fields can be modulated with a previously defined time signal. Select a time signal from the drop down list.

Add...

Opens the import external field file selector dialog box which allows to select a field monitor or an ASCII file which will be added to the list of imported fields.

Delete

Deletes the selected field import definition.

Preview

Shows the bounding box of the currently selected field import definition.

OK

Confirms the changes and closes the dialog box.

Cancel

Closes this dialog box and cancels all changes you have made in this dialog box.
