           NR Limiting Step

NR Limiting Step

The option limiting_step sets the maximum size for changes in node voltages at each step in the Newton-Raphson loop. The default is 0.3 Volts. Use of a limiting step is referred to as “damped Newton-Raphson.” This option trades off the ability to converge and the speed of the simulation. Making the limiting step smaller improves the chance of convergence, but usually increases the number of NR iterations needed to reach convergence. For circuits with nearly linear functions, increasing the limiting step can speed up the simulation.
