Replacing an Element with a Transmission Line

You can replace an element with a transmission line equivalent at some frequency. Although approximate, this operation may yield quite satisfactory results for some applications. In fact, stepped impedance lowpass filters are obtained by replacing series inductors and shunt capacitors with high- and low-impedance transmission line sections respectively.

This transformation is not an exact-equivalent operation. The filter response is optimized at fp1, but it will be distorted for other frequencies.

 

To replace an element with a transmission line:

1. Select an element.

2. Click Replace with a Transmission Line on the Filter>Transform submenu.
