Analyzing the Filter

Filter Design Tool uses its own analysis tools and plots. For any frequency range selected, a fast ABCD-matrix analysis is run and data is cached. Then using the plot type selected, the appropriate response is shown in the plot window. Changing the plot type, therefore, will not re-run the analysis, however, changing the frequency range will.

The analysis is pretty fast and the plot is updated in milliseconds right after the analysis. This yields a seamless transition of the plot and in fact this is why Filter Design Tool can always keep the plot window up-to-date.

In XY-graphs, frequency range is assigned to the X-axis. The specified frequency range is usually round to better viewable numbers. Also, Y-axes are always autoscaled for convenience.

You can either use menu items or shortcut menu to analyze the filter, change its range and plot type.

 

To perform analysis and display results (all menu items below are on the Filter > Analysis submenu):

1. To analyze using current settings (like Refresh), click Analyze.

2. To include losses in the analysis, check Include Q factor losses.

3. To bring up the Analysis Settings dialog box, and select more plot types, click Analysis Settings.
