When CST STUDIO SUITE is started, the software automatically checks for updates. This check, however, is not performed more often than every twelve hours in order to reduce network traffic. If an update is found, a background task is started to download the corresponding files without any further interaction. Once the update files are available locally, a dialog box is shown the next time when the CST STUDIO SUITE is started.
From this dialog box, you can either
start immediate installation of the new patch,
skip the installation this time and show the dialog box again next time when starting the CST STUDIO SUITE or
deny installation of this particular patch (use the CST Update Manager to install the patch at a later time)
The installation procedure can not modify files while they are in use. Therefore, please make sure to close any instances of CST STUDIO SUITE before starting the updating process. You may revert to a previous original release or service pack at any time by using the CST Update Manager.
The update packages can either be downloaded from the internet or can be obtained from a particular folder in the file system. The Preferences dialog box allows specifying the location for updates or even deactivating the software updating system. Please refer to the CST Update Manager documentation for more information about how to store the update packages in a local folder.
Please note: The data is stored differentially in the update packages, so please make sure not to modify any installation file manually. If a file is modified without the use of the automatic updating system, the differential patches may no longer be applied and the software updating may fail afterwards.
