Adding Frequency Sweeps

To generate a solution across a range of frequencies, add a frequency sweep to the solution setup. Designer performs the sweep after the adaptive solution, if one is defined. If an adaptive solution is not requested, the sweep is the only solution generated.

To add a frequency sweep:

1. Select the desired solution setup in the project tree.

2. On the EM Design menu, point to Solution Setup, and then click Add Frequency Sweep.

The sweep dialog box appears.

3. Select the sweep type, Discrete or Interpolating Fast.

4. If you selected Discrete, you can select Generate Surface Current if you want Designer to save the surface current data at every discrete frequency point.

5. If you selected interpolating, you can select Enforce Causality and Designer will apply the Tsuk-White algorithm to the output of the sweep to enforce the S(t) is 0 for t < 0.

6. Specify the frequency points to solve.

7. If you plan to perform a Full-Wave SPICE analysis, click Setup Full-Wave Spice to obtain assistance determining a suitable frequency sweep range for the solution.

 

Note

If the model contains dielectrics with dielectric or magnetic loss tangents that vary significantly as a function of frequency, a frequency sweep may not yield the results you expect. In this case, copy the project and then change the frequency and loss tangents in the copied project to match those at the new frequency.

 

Note

When you repeat a discrete or fast sweep, Designer will automatically reuse frequency points that have been previously analyzed (barring any major change to the design or sweep type). For example, you can analyze a sweep, then extend the range of points, and only the new points will be analyzed.
