Data Interpolation

Only S-parameter data from HFSS is linked to Designer circuits as “N-Ports.” Electric fields, magnetic fields, and antenna gain, etc., are not transferred.

You can choose to interpolate between HFSS design variations in the Designer circuit or simulate missing variations using HFSS:

• The interpolation scheme does not assume that the data lies on a rectangular grid and uses all of the available HFSS solution data.

If terminal data exists in the HFSS model, it is used by Designer, otherwise modal data is used:

• Multi-mode and multi-terminal ports in HFSS are shown as individual pins in Designer.

• S-parameter data from HFSS is normally re-normalized to 50 ohms in Designer due to the default port termination definition. (Data normally remains un-normalized in HFSS.) You can choose to renormalize the Designer port impedance to an HFSS port. See Renormalizing Ports Based on HFSS Data.

• Terminal data derived from differential pairs is not used by Designer.

Note

Differential terminal data in HFSS is transferred to Designer as underlying terminal data, which is not differential. For this reason, differential data plotted in HFSS may not agree with raw terminal data plotted in Designer.
