Connectors are integral part of any transmission system. They allow to interconnect systems orcircuits via cables, but what is important – they represents a discontinuity. And effects of the discontinuity grow with frequency, which means that reflections, Differential to common mode conversion and radiation are always there. Therefore the precise connector characterization is required.
In this video, you will learn what causes the discrepency between simulation results and measurement results, particularly for multipin connectors.
When compare the simulation with measurement, the effects of the test fixture cannot be ignored. The test fixture for connector measurement has a significant impact on the all measured parameters of the connector. Test fixtures are mandatory for VNA Measurement, and they are often assumed as ideal and ignored.
Recommendations for the Fixture Design:

Precision launchers should be used(Matching,Repeatbility)

Fixture must be symmetrical (LCL!, LCTL!)

Reference planes should be as close aspossible to the connector itself (RL,IL)

Do not forget Common Mode
