Getting Started with Ansoft Designer > Set Up ExcitationsTo setup excitations: 1. In the Project Manager, under Excitations, right-click p2, and then select Properties. The Edge Port Definition dialog box appears. 2. In Post Processing Settings, for Magnitude and Phase, enter 0V and Odeg, respectively.
The following controls are also available:
Port Definition Port Name specifies the port being defined Terminal Name controls the name of the terminal Reference specifies the reference used by the port Calibration Zo expressed in ohm
Planar EM Type of port Ignore Reference allows you to choose Use Port Solver Use Port Solver should be selected if you want Designer to calculate the characteristic impedance and propagation constant for the port. Designer will calibrate the gap source automatically for greater accuracy. Use Default should be selected if instead of the Port Solver you wish Designer to use the default setting, expressed in ohm
HFSS Type of port
Post Processing Settings Magnitude expressed in volts (V) Phase expressed in degrees Post Process Port allows you to specify the Renormalize and Deembed settings Renormalize expressed in ohm Deembed (into the port) units, expressed in mm Deembed Gap Port Inductance specifies that the length and width of the port is calculated and cached as part of the solution data for subsequent use. During postprocessing a list of the ports to deembed is used to calibrate the network data. For more information, see Deembedding.
When all settings are as desired, click OK to close the dialog. Alternatively, the following method would be convenient for multiple-port designs. You can right-click Excitations in the project tree, and then click Port Excitations on the shortcut menu. The Port Excitations dialog box appears, in which you can modify port excitations.
Animate the Currents 1. To display currents, in the Project Manager, right-click Sweep2, point to Results and then click Display Currents.
2. In the Project Manager window, in the Field Overlays folder, right-click Setup 1: Sweep2:Currents, and then click Properties. The Currents dialog box appears: 3. Do the following: Under Scale, select Auto Scale and Logarithmic. Under Color Map, in the Ramp and Levels lists, select 21 and Temperature. Under Magnitude, in the Surface Deviation list, enter 3mm. Leave the other settings unchanged, and click OK. 4. Phase animate the currents: a. Under Field Overlays in the project tree, right-click Setup 1: Sweep2 Currents, and then click Frequency on the shortcut menu. The Frequencies dialog box appears. b. Select 2.7 GHz from the list and click OK. c. Right-click Setup1:Sweep2:Currents and then select Animate. The Setup Animation dialog box appears: d. Do the following: Accept the defaults for Name (Animation1) and make sure that Phase is selected as the Swept Variable. In the Start, Stop, and Steps boxes, enter 0deg, 360deg, and 40. e. Click OK. The animation begins and a control panel opens:
The resulting display should look similar to the following: 5. In the Layout 3D window, right-click to Zoom, Rotate, or Pan the animation. 6. Click Close when finished.
