Place the Input and Output Ports

1. On the Schematic Editor toolbar, click the Interface Port icon and place ports at the input and output. Next, wire the first port, “Port1”, to the input as shown.

2. Define the source (excitation) for Port1. In the schematic editor, double-click the input port, “Port1”. The Port Definition dialog box appears.

3. Make sure that the following values appear:

4. Under Source Definition, click Add, and the Source Selection dialog box appears.

5. Set power (p) to -70, and select dBm in the Unit list (variables may be added without specifying a unit, as the project default-unit for the variable type will be used).

6. Specify a variable for frequency. Type a new variable name, FF, in the Value column of the Frequency row and then press Enter. The Add Variable dialog appears.

7. Type 3.9GHz in the Value box and verify that the Local Variable button is selected, then click OK.

8. Click OK to close the Source Selection dialog box, and again click OK to close the Port Definition dialog box.

• Note that the schematic symbol for port1 has changed into a source symbol.

• Note also that the microwave port has been flipped in the x direction.

• You can add additional sinusoidal excitations, if desired.

At this point your schematic should look similar to the following:
