Editing Medium Properties

You can change medium properties such as height, dielectric permittivity even after the filter is designed in the design wizard. The layout is always calculated using the filter circuit, therefore changes to the medium will result in recalculation of dimensions only. You can even change the type of the substrate and the layout will be updated accordingly.

Once you are done with the dialog, the dimensions will be recalculated and the layout will be updated.

To edit medium properties or change the medium type:

1. Bring up the Medium Properties dialog box by clicking Change Substrate/Medium on the Filter>Layout submenu. If you don’t have this item enabled, you probably have an unsuitable topology and you should first change it to a topology which allows physical realization.

2. In the dialog box, select the medium type in the list on the left of the medium picture.

3. Type in fields of interest.

4. Check Calculate with equal linewidths to force identical MCPL widths. This option is enabled for Combline and Interdigital filters only.

5. Click OK.

Single transmission line and coupled line testing is also added to the dialog for convenience. You can type in values and calculate electrical/physical parameters by clicking the calculate buttons.
