Particle Sources can be defined on PEC-surfaces and on arbitrary material surface. After choosing the kind of particle source, you have to select the emitting surface by double click with your left mouse button. For each particle source an emission model has to be defined.

General

Name

Declare the name for the particle source. Each source must have a unique name.

Tracking emission model / PIC emission model

The assortment of emission models is dependent on the problem class. Detailed information of all emission models can be obtained from the Particle Emission Model Overview help page.

Tracking

PIC

Fixed kinetic energy model

Gauss emission

Space charge limited model

DC emission

Thermionic model

Field emission

Field-induced model

Explosive emission

Edit...

To modify the currently selected emission model press the edit button and a sub dialog box will open.

Emission density

Number of emission points

This field displays the number of emission points and cannot be changed.

Adjust density to mesh

Activation yields a particle density, which ensures in its lowest level a density of more than one emission point in each emitting mesh-cell.

Slider

The number of triangles approximating the particle's source surface can be changed by moving the slider. To get finer triangulations and thus more  emission points, move the slider to the right-hand side.  The centroid of each triangle serves as a emission point.

Scale factor

Possible density scale factors are 1, 10 and 100. This factor is used to increase the emission point density. It should be changed, if the desired number of emission points cannot be obtained by using the slider.

Particle properties

Particle type

Type of the emitted particles. Available are "electron", "proton" and "userdefined".

Charge per particle

For the user defined particle type, the charge of a single particle can be defined here.

Mass per particle

For the user defined particle type, the mass of a single particle can be defined here.

Load...

Import of particle types form the particle definition library.

Save...

Export of user defined particle types to the particle definition library.

OK

Accepts the changes and closes the dialog box.

Cancel

Closes this dialog box without performing any further action.
