Create Trace from Curve

Modeling: CurvesCurve ToolsTrace From Curve

In this dialog box you can cover a previously defined planar curve (closed or open) with arbitrary thickness and width to create a solid shape.

After selecting the corresponding menu or toolbar item an interactive mode will be entered in which a curve needs to be selected. This curve will then be used for the creation of the new shape.

As soon as the new shape is created it will appear in the main plot window and on the navigation tree. The pictures below show the shapes created by using an open and a closed curve.

Closed curve.

Open curve (with one rounded cap).

Name

Specify the unique name for the solid.

Thickness

Specify a valid expression for the thickness of the trace. The thickness is along the z-axis in the global coordinate system and along the w-axis in the local coordinate system. Negative thickness settings will result in an extrusion into the opposite direction.

Width

Specify a valid expression for the width of the trace.

Rounded Caps

Here you can choose if the start and end caps should be rounded. These two switch boxes are only enabled for open curves.

Component

Choose a new component from the select list. You can also create a new component by typing the name of the new component.

Material

Select the material to which this shape will be assigned from the list of previously defined materials or create a new material by selecting [New Material...]. You can also load a material from the material library by selecting [Load from Material Library...].

OK

Press this button to finally create the shape.

Preview

Press this button to create a preview image of the shape. This option is very useful to check the settings before you actually create the shape.

Cancel

Closes this dialog box without performing any further action.
