Define Thermal Surface Properties

Simulation: Sources and LoadsThermal Surface

Thermal surface properties can be assigned to surfaces of thermal conductive materials. A thermal surface property definition describes the radiation and convection losses from a surface.

Name

Declare the name for the thermal surface. Each surface must have a unique name.

Radiation properties

Emissivity:

The Emissivity is a dimensionless constant within the interval 0 and 1, which describes the radiation from a previously defined surface:

,

where stands for the radiated power, for the surfaces temperature, for the background temperature, for the Stefan-Boltzmann constant and for the area of the selected surfaces. An emissivity value = 0 means that the surface does not lose thermal power by radiation; a value of 1 means that the surface emits thermal power as good as the so-called ”black radiator”.

Convection properties

Heat transfer coefficient:

The Heat transfer coefficient describes convection processes at the surfaces of conductive materials:

,

where denotes the power, the surfaces temperature, the background temperature and the area for the selected surfaces.
