Topology Restrictions for the Budget Domain

1. The top-level system topology (or any subsystem topology) may have only two external ports.

2. The top-level system must be cascaded.

3. Only electrical (frequency based) components and linear/nonlinear electrical subsystems are allowed for the budget domain. No time-based components are allowed.

4. For each input frequency tone, each node inside the system must have only a single frequency tone present (e.g., multiple mixer paths may not lead to different frequencies at a given node in the system. This condition should yield an analysis error message).

5. The system’s input port is assumed to be port one of the system.

6. All mixers and nonlinear components are assumed to have one output frequency for each input frequency. In other words, harmonic and intermodulation distortions are ignored in this analysis.

Note

Budget analysis is only applicable to cascaded RF systems.
