Putting It All Together

To determine the modified response of the completed amplifier design:

1. Close Smith Tool.

2. Select the Amplifier schematic.

3. Connect the input and output networks between the appropriate circuit points.

4. Reanalyze the SmithToolMatching project.

5. View the Amplifier Responses data table report.

As intended, the circuit’s gain is 14.8 dB and its noise figure is 5.0 dB. The output match is good
(−29.3 dB), while the input match is poor (−5.5 dB). A poor input match is expected, since we have purposely mismatched at the source plane to achieve the target gain and noise figure.

Hint

To save this solved, matched version of the Smith Tool matching example without overwriting the original project, click Save As on the File menu, specify a new name (such as SmithToolMatchingSolved), and then click OK.
