External Netlist Designs With Designer Analysis

Another approach is to develop a circuit design using an environment other than Designer, generate a Nexxim-compatible netlist, then open the netlist within Designer to run the analysis and view the results. The basic steps in this process are:

1. Generate a Nexxim-compatible netlist file using an external design environment. Alternatively, the user can create the netlist file using a text editor, following the Nexxim netlist syntax specification. The netlist identifies and connects all circuit components, assigns instance and model parameters to devices, and specifies the type of analysis to be performed.

Valid formats and filename extensions for the netlist file are:

• .cir—Nexxim internal netlist format

• .sp—HSPICE netlist format

• .scs—Spectre® netlist format.

2. Open Designer. See Starting Designer.

3. Open the netlist file from the File>Open menu on the Designer top menu bar. The netlist design becomes the current project.

4. Run the analysis as specified in the netlist.

5. Create and view one or more reports from the analysis results.

Note

In Designer schematic designs, expressions can include built-in constants such as ‘pi’, and designs can reference user-defined project variables and intrinsic variables. These constants and variables are not available in designs entered with the netlist editor or in externally-generated netlists.
