External Netlist Designs with Command Line Analysis

A similar approach is to generate a circuit netlist using a design environment or text editor external to Designer, run the analysis from the operating system command line, then view the results in Designer. The basic steps in this process are:

1. Generate the netlist file using the design environment or text editor of your choice.

Valid formats and filename extensions for the netlist file are:

• .cir—Nexxim internal netlist format

• .sp—HSPICE netlist format

• .scs—Spectre® netlist format.

2. At the operating system command line prompt, execute the nexxim command on the netlist file, specifying the name and location of the output file and other command line options. The simulation runs, and writes the results to a file with a .sdf extension. See Command Line Controls for details.

3. Open Designer. See Starting Designer.

4. Open the netlist file from the File>Open menu on the Designer top menu bar. The netlist design becomes the current project.

5. Create and view one or more reports from the analysis results.

Note

In Designer schematic designs, expressions can include built-in constants such as ‘pi’, and designs can reference user-defined project variables and intrinsic variables. These constants and variables are not available in designs entered with the netlist editor or in externally-generated netlists.
