Dynamic Link Output Variables

HFSS output variables can refer to either “regular” quantities (i.e. S-parameter based quantities) or “fields” quantities. In HFSS, a field-based quantity can only be evaluated for a given geometry, theta, and phi values. You must define these quantities in Designer using a manual override for dynamic link output variables.

Output variables for “regular” quantities from HFSS will have the following format in Designer:

<output_variable_name>(<dyn_link_comp_name>_ID)

where

• output_variable_name is the HFSS output variable name

• dyn_link_comp_name is the name of the dynamic link component in Designer

• ID is the ID of a particular instance of this component in Designer

Example: dbS11(Hfss1_11)

Note

It is assumed that “regular” output variables from HFSS are independent of the excitations used in HFSS.

HFSS output variables that refer to field quantities can be accessed in the Designer Reporter by overriding the standard output variable format as follows:

<output_variable_name>(<dyn_link_comp_name>_ID, geom='<hfss_geom_name>', theta=<text_value>, phi=<text_value>)

The override specifies the HFSS geometry to use to compute the output variable, theta, and phi.

Example: GainOut(Hfss1_11, geom='InfSphere1', theta='0deg', phi='50deg')

Notes

1. Output Variable data extraction will fail for field-based output variables if the three extra parameters are not defined.

2. The Output Variable override format can only be used for “file”' based output variable in HFSS.

3. Excitations are computed and “pushed” into HFSS prior to computing “field” based quantities in HFSS. Thus, the cost of extraction will be much greater for field-based output variables than for regular ones.

4. You can set up Designer sweeps that do not match the HFSS solution sweep used at simulation time. In this case, the output variable data may not be available across all Designer data points.
