What is the difference between milli-wave and laser

I am familar with Laser. However, still have no idea about milli-wave around 10-110GHz. Could you please tell me something about it? I am curious about what generates such a wave. Just a normal electrically oscillating circuit? And what is MMIC (monolithic microwave integrated circuit)? What are integrated on the substrate? Some inductors and electrical components?
