Importing 2D Model Files into the Layout Editor

Importing 2D Model Files into the Layout Editor

You can read the following 2D model files directly into the active Layout Editor window:

Extension	Contents
.dxf	AutoCAD® Drawing exchange file
.dwg	AutoCAD® Drawing file
.sm2	Ansoft 2D Modeler files
.strm	GDSII Stream format
.gds	GDSII Stream format
.sf	GDSII Stream format

Note

If you import a file into an active 3D Modeler window that contains an existing model, the file will be added to the existing model; it will not replace it.

To import a 2D model file:

1. Start a new Planar EM project to open the Layout Editor.

2. On the Layout menu, click Import.

3. The Import File Open window opens:

4. Use the Look in field to locate the directory containing the file you want to import. Use the Files of type field to display the files with the format you want to import.

5. Select the 2D model file you want import from the display.

6. Click Open. A dialog box specific to the requested format (DXF/DWG, SM2, or GDSII) appears, as detailed in the next three topics.
