Dynamic Links and Solver On Demand > Planar EMIn the Solver on Demand tab of the Edit Component dialog, when you choose Planar EM from the model pulldown menu and click Add, the following cosimulation definition dialog appears. (The same dialog appears when you click Edit with a previously added Planar EM model name selected).
If desired, check Use single Design across instances (default). Click the Stackup pulldown menu to choose one of the following: Layout, Footprint, or Substrate. Enter an alternative integer value in the De-embed Ratio window.
Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog, or click Cancel to close the dialog without saving any changes.
You can use the Define Cosimulation dialog to set the type of Stackup and De-embed Ratio, as well as whether to Use single Design across instances. Stackup – Set to one of three values (Layout, Substrate, or Footprint) to determine which stackup definition will be used to model the component when it is simulated by the Planar EM simulator. For more information see Stackup Definitions. Solver on Demand with the Planar EM tool requires that the component possess a physical definition, i.e., a footprint. Many components in the Ansoft Designer® library have a footprint and can be simulated using Planar EM as the Solver on Demand. When you define a component, it can be simulated using Solver on Demand as long as the component possesses a physical definition. For more information see Physical Definition. De-embed Ratio – Determines the manner in which excitation signals are fed to the component via transmission lines during PlanarEM simulation. Short sections of transmission line are automatically added to the ports of the Solver on Demand component to allow discontinuities near the ports to decay in the EM simulation. The length of these transmission lines is equal to the De-embed Ratio times the width of the Solver on Demand port. That is, Length = De-embed Ratio * W (port connection). The Planar EM solution data is automatically de-embedded back to the initial Solver on Demand component geometry to remove the effects of the additional transmission lines. Use single Design across instances enables the same design to be used for all instances of the component type, eliminating the need to specify the Solver On Demand model individually.
