Material Parameters: default - Nonlinear

Modeling: MaterialsNew/EditNew MaterialNonlinear

Edit Object Properties (navigation tree: Materials:material1PropertiesNonlinear)

This is a dialog page of the Material Parameters dialog box.

This dialog offers the possibility to define a nonlinear permeability as magnetic H-B curve and lamination settings for a nonlinear material with stacking factor.

Magnetic B-H curve

Value: In this list box a nonlinear magnetic H-B curve can be defined. Successive H values have to be strict monotonous increasing and the H-B curve has to be monotonous increasing.

Measurement error: This is the maximum error of the given data points meaning that maximum distance of the computed material curve from the data points is less than the measurement error.

Insert: Inserts a new  row  as mean values between the selected row and the row before.

Delete Value:  Pressing this button deletes the selected row in the magnetic H-B curve list box.

Delete All: Pressing this button deletes all entries in the magnetic H-B curve list box.

Import: Imports a H-B curve from a text file with the corresponding H-B pairs in a two column list. Note: All entries in the list will be deleted before the import.

Export: Exports the H-B curve as a text file.

Stacking

Stacked material: Switch it on to define a nonlinear material with stacking factor.

Stacking factor: Enter here the fraction of the layers in the stacked material. The fraction of each layer is the ratio of the thickness of the nonlinear part to the thickness of the

entire layer including the insulation. The stacking factor must be a value between 0 and 1. The value 1 corresponds to isotropic material.

Stacking direction: Specify here the direction which is perpendicular to the layers (lamination) of the stacked material. Depending on the chosen coordinate system, the direction is interpreted either in global coordinates or in the coordinates of the local solid coordinate system (provided there is one).

Coord. system: Choose whether to interpret the stacking direction in Global coordinates or Relative to each solid of this material, i.e. in local solid coordinates. When solid related coordinates are chosen, it is required that each solid with this material has a local solid coordinate system. Otherwise a warning will be printed in the material (or appropriate solid) preview and the stacking direction will be interpreted in global coordinates. The advantage of choosing local solid coordinates is that only one material has to be defined for solids with different orientations.

Please note: The nonlinear stacking feature is currently supported only by the tetrahedral magnetostatic solver.

Prev. Stacking / Prev. B-H curve

Behind the dialog either the B-H curve or the model structure can be previewed. With this button you can switch between the two states.

When the structure preview is active, pink arrows are drawn at each solid center which point in the direction specified as Stacking direction (depending on the chosen coordinate system). Moreover the letter "X" at the pointed side of an arrow indicates that the direction is meant to be relative to the solid coordinate system, but no solid coordinate systems exists for this solid.
