Splitter (sensitivity-yield analysis)

Frequency Domain Analysis Examples

General Purpose Tetrahedral:

General Description

This waveguide splitter is build up by a metallic box, which can be constructed via the macro Home: Macros Construct Online Waveguide T-Splitter.

This example demonstrates the S-parameter sensitivity and yield analysis.

Structure Generation

The most important parts of the structure are modelled by bricks and cylinders. For the real world structure there is a metallic box that encloses the structure. For the simulation, this box is omitted, because it can be simulated by electric boundary conditions.

In order to calculate the S-parameter sensitivity of the radius of the cylinder, a face constraint has to be defined on that cylinder. For more details please look at the online help.

Mesh Settings

The mesh type was left at "Tetrahedral Mesh" in the frequency domain solver dialog. Otherwise, default mesh settings are used.

Yield Analysis Settings

The settings are located in Post Processing: Yield Analysis . The Performance Specifications tab defines in this case a bound of 0.162 for the magnitude of S1,1 from 8.6 to 9.2 GHz. The signicant digits of this bound are limited by the accuracy chosen for the mesh adaption and for the interpolative frequency sweep.

Solver Setup

This example is simulated using the frequency domain solver. The sensitivity analysis is enabled for the radius of the cylinder. The broadband frequency sweep is enabled, with as many frequency samples in the range from 8 GHz to 10 GHz as required.

The adaptive mesh refinement frequency sample is placed automatically at 10 GHz. The solver reaches the scattering parameter convergence threshold after calculating eight frequency samples.

The progression of the scattering parameter sweep error measure is shown in the 1D Results   Convergence Parameter folder.

Please note that the solver becomes increasingly faster in subsequent runs, which is due to an improved initial solution.

Post Processing

The scattering parameters and the sensitivity of the S-parameters w.r.t. the cylinder radius can be accessed through the 1D Results folder in the navigation tree.

After the successful solver run the yield analysis of S11 is computed via Post Processing:   Yield Analysis . The computed yield can be accessed through the result tree.
