Stroke Magnet

Magnetostatic Examples

General Description

This example shows the calculation of a stroke magnet's static fields. The default nonlinear steel-1008 is used for the core and the load material.

Structure Generation

The iron core is generated by an extrude which is mirrored at the symmetry plane. The structure is driven by a current coil, consisting of 1000 turns, carrying a current  of 10 A. Two tangential symmetry conditions are used to limit the computational domain.

Solver Setup

For this example the hexahedral mesh type is selected. The structure's mesh is refined at the air gaps by changing the "Mesh properties" of the spacer. Adaptive mesh refinement is switched off. After that the magnetostatic solver can be started.

Post Processing

After the calculation the B and H fields as well as the discretized source current are available in the "2D/3D Results" folder. Furthermore, as a post processing step, the force and torque for the different solids can be calculated (Results->Force Calculation...).
