Define Coil Segment

Simulation: Sources and LoadsCoilCoil Segment

Coil segments are stranded conductors with a homogeneous current distribution in its cross section. This source type feeds the calculation domain with a given current. For more general information refer to the path source overview page.

Coil segments can be constructed in various ways which are described on the definition mode page.

Note: Coil segment sources are available for tetrahedral-based solvers only.

Name

Defines the name of the coil segment. Each path source must have a unique name.

Current

Specify the current for the coil segment. For frequency domain calculations, it can be specified in the LF Frequency Domain Solver - Special Settings, whether this current value is to be interpreted as peak or RMS value. With the default settings, the prescribed current is interpreted as RMS value, i.e. as the root-mean-square values.

Phase

Specify the phase of the  coil segment. Please note that the current phase only affects the simulation for frequency domain problems.

Height

This dialog element is visible only if the current path was constructed without selecting a curve for the path. The height value is used to extrude the profile along its plane normal.

Use pick

This dialog element is visible only if the source was constructed with a picked point for the height. If switched off one can enter a height value in the Height field.

Preview

This dialog element is visible only if the source was constructed with a height value or a picked point to determine the height. After pressing the Preview button a preview of the current path with the specified Height value is created.

OK

Accepts the changes and closes the dialog.

Cancel

Closes this dialog box without performing any further action.
