Name and type definition
Name: Displays the name for the monitor either as a user input or automatically generated.
Automatic labeling: This check button enables or disables the automatic labeling for the defined monitor. The automatically generated label consists of the selected monitor type, including the specified solid settings.
Type: This drop-down list offers a variety of monitors. The currently available monitor types allow the observation of Energy, Co-energy, Coil Voltages, Force and Torque and Ohmic Losses.
Monitor settings
Everywhere/all domains: Evaluation of the specified function (monitor type) in the entire computation domain.
Select subvolume: Enables a drop-down list from which a solid, a coil or a solid wire can be chosen.
Please note that Coil Voltages can be evaluated only on coils and Forces can be evaluated only on non-sheet and non-hybrid solids as well as on coils and solid wires. The options "background" or "all domains" are not available for these monitor types.
Extend to touching shapes: This check box is available only for the Forces and Torque monitor type. The force computation method requires objects which are surrounded completely by the background or by objects that are equivalent to the background. An object is considered as equivalent to the background if
it has the same material coefficients (e.g. for electrostatics the same permittivity, or for magnetostatics the same permeability) and
it is not occupied by a source.
When the checkbox is activated all shapes connected to the selected solid or coil will be collected into one group and the force on this group will be computed. Otherwise the force will be computed only on the specified object, but a warning will be printed if shapes are detected which are not entirely embedded in background or equivalent material.
Please note that the background and equivalent objects are ignored by the force computation method, but the selected object will never be ignored.
Please see Force and Torque Calculation for further information.
Torque normal / Torque origin: Available only for the Forces and Torque monitor type. In these 6 edit fields the position and orientation of the torque axis can be specified.
