Import Object File

Modeling: ExchangeImport/ExportImport3D FilesOBJ

From within this dialog you can import Object files.

In case your CAD system does not support SAT or IGES export you might import structure data via the OBJ interface. Object data import can take some time and might lead to a very slow meshing process, because every triangle will be converted to an ACIS FACE.

If you have the choice between a high end data format like SAT / IGES and OBJ – choose the high end format, because further operations on the structure will be much faster.

The import supports the following data structures from Object files: 'v' and 'f' (vertices and faces).

Note: Object files are only imported as one solid. If you want to get its basic shapes you may consider Modeling: ToolsShape ToolsSeparate Shape.

Open

Opens the selected OBJ file, adds its data to your model and leaves the dialog box.

Cancel

Closes this dialog box without performing any further action.

Copy file to project

Use this option to copy the import file to the project folder. If you save your project to another destination the imported file is copied automatically.

Scale factor

Set the scale factor to scale the coordinates of all vertices. Importing object files from the program package Poser then it seems that the scale factor has to be 2500. This scale factor is the default value. If you do not want the coordinates to be scaled then set the scale factor to 1.0. This option is disabled when 'Scale to current unit' is activated.

Scale to current unit

Enables scaling of the imported model to the currently active unit. As the units of the import model are not defined in the import file you have to specify the units of the import model in the 'Import file units' drop down list.  If not activated no scaling occurs. This option is disabled when 'Scale factor' is used.

Import file units

In the drop down list you can specify the units of the import model. These controls are only active when the option 'Scale to current unit' is checked.
