Time Signal Processing / TDR Cross-Probing

Home: MacrosMacrosTime Signal ProcessingTDR Cross-Probing

This macro helps to identify locations in the structure based on TDR impedance profile.

Assumptions:

  1. The structure has to be simulated with transient solver, using a short gaussian (!) pulse (Note: a step function as excitation can not be used together with this macro.)

  2. A  time domain power flow monitor.  needs to be defined, whose time sampling rate (time step width) determines the spatial resolution, which can be achieved with the cross probing. Between these two samples an interpolation needs to be performed.

  3. Finally a  TDR Result Template needs to be defined via Template Based Post Processing -> 1D

Once all above conditions are fulfilled and all result data is calculated, the macro can be applied.

TDR time

Specify the time of the TDR pulse you are interested in.

Note: Please ensure, that the time you enter corresponds to the TDR delay, which starts with 50% of the pulses maximum at t=0.

Power flow

Select a certain power flow monitor from the drop down list. This allows for instance to probe from different ports.

Cross-probe to Structure

When pressing this button, the macro analyzes the power flow monitor and back annotates the TDR time to the structure. After closing the dialogue, a point in the structure is highlighted:
