Radar Cross-Section

The radar cross-section (RCS), s, is measured in meters squared and is represented by

where

• Escat is the E-field of the scattered waves.

• Einc is the incident E-field. This is assumed to have a value of 1.

The RCS computation includes vertical (TM — Transverse Magnetic), horizontal (TE — Transverse Electric), and left- and right-hand circularly polarized incident waves. For linearly polarized incident waves, both vertical and horizontal scattered waves are computed. For circularly polarized incident waves, both left- and right-hand scattered waves are computed.

The incident plane wave direction as well as the observed direction are specified in terms of an azimuthal angle (q) and a scan angle (f). The azimuthal angle is the angle measured from the z-axis, which is the axis perpendicular to the plane of the work space and must be greater than or equal to 0 and less than 180 degrees. The scan angle is the angle measured from the x-axis and can be from 0 to +360 degrees.
