Polarization

The electric and magnetic field vectors of an electromagnetic wave, generated by an antenna, lie in a fixed plane. This is called a plane polarized wave. Over time, the instantaneous electric field vector traces out a figure or shape. This is referred to as the polarization of the electric field vector. Some of these figures, or states, are shown below:
