Defining a Parametric Sweep Using a File

In Designer, a parametric sweep can be defined using a file. Optimetrics in Designer will solve the variable values defined in the file when the parametric analysis is analyzed. Note that the variables to be swept must be defined in Designer before reading the sweep-definition file.

1. On the Product menu, point to Optimetrics Analysis, and then click Add Parametric From File. Alternatively, you can right-click Optimetrics in the project tree, and then click Add>Parametric From File on the shortcut menu.

2. When the file browser dialog appears, browse for the ASCII file that defines the sweep. (See the file format information below for how to create the sweep-definition file).

The parametric sweep will be defined automatically after the file is read. You can view the design variations that will be solved on the Table tab of the Properties of the parametric setup. Viewing the sweep definition in table format enables you to visualize the design variations that will be solved and manually adjust sweep points if necessary.

Parametric Sweep-Definition File Format:

• Make sure that all variables that are to be swept are defined in Designer before reading the sweep-definition file.

• The first line of the sweep definition file should list the variables names; the remaining lines should list the variable values.

• If a variable is defined in Designer with units, the same variable must also be defined with units in the sweep-definition file.

• The sweep-definition file can be delimeted by commas or tabs.

Following is an example of a comma-delimited sweep-definition file:

my_variable_1,my_variable_2

4pf,1e-9

4pf,2e-9

4pf,3e-9

4pf,4e-9

4pf,5e-9

4pf,6e-9

5pf,1e-9

5pf,2e-9

5pf,3e-9

5pf,4e-9

5pf,5e-9

5pf,6e-9

Note that in this example the variable "my_variable_1" has units of "pf" while "my_variable_2" has no units.
