MAXK Expansion

Each MAXK entry Mi specifies the maximum harmonic number to use for the corresponding tone fi. The analysis will be performed at DC and with harmonics 1 through M1 of tone f1 (frequency f1 itself is harmonic 1), the harmonics 1 through M2 of tone f2, and so forth up to harmonics 1 through MN of tone fN, plus their combinations (sums and differences of the harmonics).

For a two-tone mixer analysis the total number of output frequencies would be:

M1 + 2*M1*M2 + M2

In a two-tone analysis with two frequencies f1=1 MHz, M1=4 and f2=27 kHz, M2=2, harmonic balance would compute the Fourier coefficient for each of the frequencies listed in the table below at each node in the circuit. The total number of frequencies in the output is 4 + 2*4*2 + 2 = 22.

When the option power_of_two_expansion=1 is set, the single-tone harmonic balance algorithm adjusts the maximum harmonic number MAXK so that (2*MAXK + 2) is always a power of 2 (that is, MAXK = {1, 3, 7, 15, 31, 63, ...}). Set the option to 0 to disable expansion. Power of two expansion is not used for multi-tone analysis. The default for single-tone analysis is 1 (on).
