Component Definition Overview

Component Definition Overview

In Designer, a component is a collection of information to be included in a System or Nexxim schematic that defines a signal-processing function/source, a data container, or a data channel. A component may represent:

• An interpretive user-defined model (IUDM)

• A calculated mathematical model in a Designer simulation engine — such as a resistor, source, transmission line, or transistor

• A data container that possesses network information in spreadsheet form— such as a device model data component or an N-port black box component

• A data input channel that introduces external data into an analysis — such as an N-port black box component that refers to network data in an external file, or a SUBCKT component that refers to a subcircuit netlist fragment in an external file

A component definition also references separately-stored parameter and dependent data for its schematic symbol, fabrication material, layout footprint, and layer stackup definitions. These component dependencies are stored as library objects in their own additional files. See Using the Component Editor for information on how to create and modify library components.
